| home | notes of an urban traveler | |
- New York - From 1980-1983 I had an unusual number of travels. None (except possibly Montego Bay) was an exotic place, and in the photographs I was not seeking the usual focus of tourist photography. Instead, my interest was in the thing that I kept seeing over and over again in a particular place. Usually this was some kind of domestic arrangement or accommodation to the environment. Two series very close to home were Chicago and Skokie. In the spirit of my earlier Art History of Ephemera, I approached the project with a sense of fun and also a sincere relish for the odd beauties of the everyday. The prints (usually 12 to a series) were mounted on a decorative background related to the site - from wallpaper to photos to graph paper. The finished size of each piece is 12" x 9". The Chicago series was shown in "Chicago, The Architectural City" at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1983.
